Who it's for
Is micro:bit Coding & Electronics right for your child?
- Children in Class 3 to 8
- Kids who like gadgets and building things
- Scratch learners ready for physical computing
Before starting: None for beginners. A micro:bit board helps, but the free simulator works for the first classes.
Students program the BBC micro:bit, a pocket-sized computer with lights, buttons and sensors, using block coding and then Python. They turn code into real gadgets such as games, step counters and compasses, and learn how sensors and inputs connect software to the physical world.
What you'll need
- A laptop or desktop with a stable internet connection
- A BBC micro:bit board (the free online simulator works for the first classes)
Computational concepts covered
- Sequence
- Loops
- Events
- Conditionals
- Parallelism (not covered)
- Operators (not covered)
- Data
Concepts from the Creative Computing framework (Harvard Graduate School of Education).
